Mother's Prayer
Author Unknown

Oh give me patience when wee hands
Tug at me with their small demands.
And give me gentle and smiling eyes.
Keep my lips from hasty replies.

And let not weariness, confusion or noise
Obscure my vision of life's fleeting joys.
So when, in years to come my house is still
No bitter memories its rooms may fill.

Activities & Gift Ideas

1.  Mom/Grandma Photo Collage:  Use either a poster board or a special scrapbook.  If you have time, date and label the pictures along with writing something about the snapshot.

2.  Soap Beautification:  Use sewing pins, sequins, "pearls," beads, ribbon, lace, bows, small satin fabric flowers, etc. and artistically place in a bar of soap.  Periodically, when we were little we would carve the soap into a fish and decorate appropriately.

3.  Family T-Shirts/Sweat Shirts:  Make a color copy of a favorite family snapshot and have it made into either a T-Shirt or sweatshirt to commemorate the day.  Be sure to add sayings on the T-Shirt/sweatshirt that has special meaning for mom/ grandma !  You may want to consider baby hand/foot prints, family reunion pictures, etc.

4.  Plaster of Paris of Faster Plaster Hand/foot prints.  Be sure to have a copper/brass plate identifying the child and year this was done !

5. Clever Hands Scrap Quilt:  From Monica -- OK, so this one is a little more difficult than stick figures (Beverly), but I assure you, if you can sew a straight seam, you CAN quilt. Every time my mother made me an outfit, she saved the scraps. Now I do the same for my girls. For her anniversary this year we're making a postage stamp quilt out of all the scraps she and I have saved and right in the middle will be a cross stitched piece that says, "A Mother's Love Means Sew Much" It might turn out to be a wall hanging rather than a full sized quilt, but it should be cute. Just an idea.

6.  Audio/video recording of a child performing a favorite poem or song for ma or grandma.

7.  Handcrafted Cards:  Small hands making cards for ma or grandma are highly cherished!  You may even want to consider placing a favorite scripture verse or one that relates to motherhood (see Scripture).

M - O - T - H - E - R
Howard Johnson (1915)
Sing along

"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,

Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me.
